LUXUS Light art prize

Monolith represents originality and uniqueness

In 2003, the Lüdenscheid public services launched the LUX.us prize for light art. The organisers entrusted the experienced hands of Günter Wermekes with the task of designing the prize sculpture: a monolith in a colour which symbolises darkness and without which light would be pointless: black. The homogeneity of the monoliths is broken by a fingerprint made from silver (symbolising the moon, the light of the night) and at the same time, shows the way inside the sculpture. It represents the signature, originality and uniqueness of the artists and their award-winning ambitions. Inside the trophies, in the dark interior, there is a rounded information plate in gold – symbolising the sun and pure luxury.

Although the LUX.us light art prize was very successful as a one-off event and exhibition, the Lüdenscheid public services have announced that the light art prize event will not be continued for marketing and strategy reasons.
